    Garage Door Cleaning Tips

Cleaning your garage door may not seem that difficult. No matter how sturdy your garage door appears to be, it still needs to be maintained and cared for properly to keep it in working order, and the best cleaning methods can make your garage door look brand new. These steps can apply to fiberglass, wood, and metal doors alike.

    Brush and Pre-Rinse

Before using soap, remove all the dirt with a microfiber cloth or soft-bristled broom. Then, use your hose and rinse down the door, ideally with a wide-spray nozzle. Make sure not to use a pressure washer, which can cause damage.

    Use the Right Cleaning Products

Not all cleaning products are created equal, and different products may have different effects. Luckily, garage doors can handle a mild detergent, such as your basic dish soap. You can also use a biodegradable and non-toxic cleaner if you’re environmentally cautious. Make sure to never add bleach to your cleaning solution and dilute the soap with water.

    Apply the Soap

Wash the door gently with a soft, clean washcloth or scrubbing mitt. Don’t use abrasive sponges or dirty rags, which could damage or get your door dirtier, instead of cleaning it. Treat it like you’re cleaning a car and use the type of sponge and cloth you’d use for that.

    Clean Everywhere

You shouldn’t skimp out on making sure your entire garage door is clean. With a step ladder, you can get to harder-to-reach areas. If everything is clean, then you can be sure your door will work.
